Arnold St. is named after the Arnold family:
Captain John Arnold: A United Empire Loyalist from New Jersey who fled to New Brunswick after the American Revolution before trekking to Thornhill in 1792. He was a veteran of the War of 1812, serving with the York Militia.
Robert J. Arnold: John’s son, who became a highly influential local figure. He served as the Reeve of Vaughan Township from 1861 to 1863.

Elgin street is named after James Bruce, the 8th Earl of Elgin (1811–1863).
Lord Elgin was a towering figure in Canadian history, serving as the Governor General of British North America from 1847 to 1854.
